The LaserPerformance Collegiate Cup (LPCC), which first took place in 2015, is an annual event and international movement to introduce and support team racing to university-age students and academic institutions around the world. Since the inaugural year, the event has taken place in Torbole, Italy (2016), and Campione del Garda, Italy (2017), where it will return for 2018.
LPCC aims to provide the highest level of competition to as many young sailors as is possible. It provides sailors from various backgrounds with a place to meet and share their experiences and ideas. Teams are offered the opportunity to participate in a development clinic, with world class team race coaches, before the event to acclimatize sailors to the boats, venue and racing style.
The format is 3v3 team racing in LaserPerformance’s double handed Z420 dinghies. Each boat has 2 sailors so teams need a minimum of 6 members to compete.
Collegiate style racing is a fun and competitive game, providing a constant test of skill and progression of team work. Collaboration is one of the key characteristics of LPCC that will be beneficial for the rest of their lives.
We hope that LPCC will continue its growth and spreading sailing to universities around the world.
